Science Agora is an interactive communication event, informing the general public of the impact of science on society. RIKEN participated in Science Agora 2008 which was held at Miraikan and other venues, at Odaiba, Tokyo. This was the second time that RIKEN participated in the event and under the banner of “RIKEN - Pioneer in science, in search of new possibilities” all the institutes, Wako, Yokohama, Tsukuba, Harima and Kobe, joined forces, offering unique hands-on events and presentations, including the ‘RNA fun puzzle’ by Yokohama Institute and ‘Drama of the origin of life’ by Kobe Institute.
RIKEN ran a parallel lecture event at the Miraikan Hall (capacity: 300), titled “Scientific investigation into the intuitive mind of shogi players” attended by Dr. Ryoji Noyori, president of RIKEN, Dr. Masao Ito, special adviser to Brain Science Institute, Mr. Michiyoshi Mazuka, Chairman of Fujitsu Limited and Mr. Kunio Yonenaga, Chairman of Japan Shogi Federation.
About 1500 visitors, from families with young children to university students and professionals, visited the RIKEN booth in the three-day event, and the first floor of the lecture event hall was nearly filled to capacity.
