7. Another example of spots representing
spatial configurations in object images: Representation of configuration of facial parts.
There
are neurons that are (1) activated by faces but not by a part of faces, (2)
tuned to faces with particular view angles, and (3) activated by different
faces equally well. Optical imaging suggests that these neurons are also
clustered in a spot. Interestingly, spots revealed by different view angles
are partially overlapped and continuously mapped. (This result was obtained
by G. Wang, K. Tanaka, and M. Tanifuji)
