4. Searching for the area relating to representation of spatial relationship among local feature.

If the activity spots represent local features (left panel), how the spatial relationship among these local features is specified? To search for neural mechanisms particularly for the representation of spatial relationship, 'on top of', we conducted the optical imaging experiment (right panel). We searched for the spots activated by a combination of two parts, but not by a part alone. To exclude the spots activated by local features appeared at the junction of two parts, we also used the stimulus in which a gap is introduced between the

parts. Spot A in the right is the spot that satisfied the criteria.
