Riken Summer School

Summary

RIKEN Summer School is an annual event held mainly for Junior Research Associates (JRAs), International Program Associates (IPAs) and RIKEN Student Researchers (RSRs), aiming to provide an opportunity for interaction among young researchers from various research fields and countries. The school is a two-day event featuring presentations and other activities. As a general rule, please participate in the whole event.

Participants

JRAs, IPAs, RSRs and a limited number of Student Trainees
* The maximum number of participants is 110 (first come first served basis). If there are more than 110 registrations, priorities are given to first time participants.
* Student Trainees will be notified of the result of their application after the application is closed. For JRAs, IPAs and RSRs, the secretariat will contact the members *only if an adjustment of participants is needed*. Unless you are contacted separately, please assume that your application was successful.

Requirements

Participants are expected to attend the entire program. If you need to leave early, please consult the Secretariat in advance and inform a staff member at the registration desk before departure. Participants are required to create and present a poster at the school. The best posters for each research field will be awarded a prize. Participants are also asked to prepare a summary for their poster presentation which will be printed in the 2026 RIKEN Summer School guidebook, and to prepare a self-introductory document for the Icebreaker.

Photos taken on-site

Participants are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from taking photos at the venue (including the slides for talks and poster contents). Please note that the Secretariat, however, will be taking photos for PR purposes, e.g. to use for Junior Scientist's Program webpage and various reports etc., for which we have asked for permission of usage upon registration. The PR photos taken by the Secretariat shall not show the contents of the poster presentations and will be handled with utmost care when using such photo.

Please also note that the Secretariat will be taking non-PR photos as well to record the event and share memories with the registered participants, screeners, speakers and staff. These non-PR photos will be shared after the event with limited access to those that were at the Summer School. Again, the photos taken shall not show the contents of the poster presentations. Please DO NOT share the non-PR photos on SNS or other media without the consent of the people in the photo. If you have any concerns regarding photography during the event, please inform a nearby staff.

Policy regarding the guidebook

The guidebook will include the outline of all poster presentations, and it will be provided in paper form onsite as well as a protected PDF file online before the event. Please be aware that this Summer School is a closed event and the information listed in the guidebook is not intended to be widely shared apart from the personnel involved, i.e. fellow participants, poster prize screeners, speakers and attending admin staff. The guidebook with the summary and the poster drafts collected for prize screening purposes will not be posted online, and none will be made public (during and after the Summer School).
