"Theory of Fermi surface symmetry breaking"

The Fermi surface usually respects the point-group symmetry of the underlying lattice. However, electron-electron interactions can drive a Fermi surface deformation that breaks the orientational symmetry of the system. Here I analyze a pure forward scattering model, which exhibits spontaneous Fermi surface symmetry breaking, and clarify the phase diagram including a possible quantum critical point, and universal quantities.
