Luminescence chromism of metal complexes
Vapo- and mechanoluminescent complexes in the solid state show reversible emission color changes in the visible or near-infrared regions. These spectral shifts as responses of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) or mechanical force generally originate from conformation changes in the solid state. Up to now, examples have been reported as mechanoluminescent materials. However, we cannot use such materials as dopant because their responses are based on the aggregation through the intermolecular metal-metal interaction which causes the structural changes responsible for alterations of their luminescence color. The purpose of this research is to develop the luminous metal complexes which exhibit unimolecular responses to external stimuli (VOCs, mechanical force) and understand the color alteration mechanism at the molecular level [1].
